Europe's evolving charging infrastructure for CPOs - October overview

The wind of Autum has brought new styles for several CPOs. PowerGo, with a completely new branding, Electra’s new charging areas’ style, Eleport’s new website, Be Charge image integration with Plenitude, and Stella Energy, the new branding of the old Viggo. All this shows that something is going on regarding Charging Point Operators strategies. Customer’s experience, more services, brand awareness… Each factor has its value to make CPOs successful businesses on their common goal: to facilitate EV charging for zero-emissions mobility and a healthier planet.

Let's take a look at the movements of the CPOs over the last month.

CPOs latest news in Northern Europe

  • Eviny Danmark: Continuous its network expansion in the country with new fast-charging points in Agerbæk and Oksbøl, Denmark.
  • Fastned: It keeps expanding its network in Denmark, where the largest Fastned charging station will be operational ny mid-2025 in Nyborg. Five ultra fast hubs are also under construction in London, UK, thanks to a partnership with Transpor for London, and with plans for at least a further 25 stations in total for future years.
  • InstaVolt: It has ambitious expansions plans that include 11,000 new charging points in the UK & Ireland, and 300 ones in Iceland by 2030. Its forthcoming superhub at Three Maids Hill in Winchester, due to open in March next year, will have 44 charging points and more than 800 solar panels on site.
  • IONITY: In recent weeks, the company has expanded its business in the UK, with a new hub in Conventry; in Sweden, with two new charging stations in Hoting and Nyköping; and in Finland, with a high-power station with 6 charging points in Kilpisjarvi. 
  • Uno X: It keeps concentrated in expanding its network in Norway, with new openings in Ørebekk (Fredrikstad), Hinna (Stavanger), and Drove. Denmark also inaugurated 8 additional charging points in Nyborg (Fyn).

CPOs latest news in Central Europe

  • Allego: The collaboration with Burger King in France is a fact. Their first fast-charging hub in the country is already operative in Born, Lyon, with 4 x up to 150 kW charging points. This is just the beginning of a partnership between the two companies to cover all Burger King car parks in the country with high-power charging points, which should be completed within three years.
  • Bump: A month of strategic partnerships in France, with Movivolt to strengthen Bump's fleet business and Éléphant Bleu to improve its services to all EV users, both companies and individuals.
  • DRIVECO: Its collaboration with Carrefour Market has seen 8 new charging stations go live across France in recent weeks. And its partnership with SIXT has brought a new station to live at its agency in Zaventem, Belgium, as part of DRIVECO’s international expansion strategy, and another one in Saint-Gregoire, France. These are two of the 27 new charging stations opened this month - October - in Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Switzerland, Andorra, and Monaco.  
  • Electra: Enters the Netherlands with a partnership with the KFC restaurant chain to install charging stations in 5 busy urban locations: Utrecht, Delft, Lelystad, Vlaardingen, and Hoogeveen. The CPO is testing the XCHARGE Net Zero Series at the Intermarché in Fitz-James, in France, where the electrical grid is highly constrained. This month, Electra has celebrated being ranked by LinkedIn as one of the top 20 most dynamic tech startups in France, for the 2nd year in a row.
  • EnBW: Has been ranked as the best e-mobility provider in Germany - for the sixth time in a row - by the technology magazine Connect.
  • ENGIE Vianeo: Launched a new loyalty programme in France to promote its new app. At the beginning of the month, the company inaugurated Europe's first ultra-fast motorway charging corridor for electric trucks, consisting of 5 x up to 480 kW charging stations located on the A6 and A5b.
  • EVzen: Has celebrated its more than 150 charging stations operating throughout France. One of the latest inaugurations was in Coulaines, with 2 x 120 kW and 2 x 22 kW chargers.
  • Fastned: Its enhancing its network and operations in the Netherlands by signing an agreement with Noot - a transportation company -  to provide fast-charging for its EV fleet; and opening new charging stations in Neerduist, Stille Wald and Arnhem. In addition, new stations in France and Switzerland - coming soon - and the first Fastned unnamed shop - already inaugurated in Belgium -, are further examples of the company's expansion.
  • IONITY: A big focus on the German market this month, with 38 new high-power charging points along three locations - Altdorf, Überlingen, and Jettingen-Scheppach. Other news from Central Europe includes a new hub in Baraque de Fraiture, Belgium, and a new partnership in the Netherlands with Eneco eMobility.
  • Powerdot: A month of awards and milestones. Powerdot was recently recognised for its dynamic development of EV charging infrastructure in Poland - at the Media Awards Gala and the New Mobility Leader Gala. The Portuguese CPO also celebrated the installation of 5,000 charging points in France, where a further 3,000 points are currently being deployed in 400 locations. 
  • SWIO: It keeps growing its network in Luxembourg, with 2 recent inaugurations in Dudelange; new AC charging points at Losch Luxembourg in Kockelscheuer; and 9 new charging stations in Bertrange.

CPOs latest news in Southern Europe

  • Atlante: Atlante has celebrated this month its third anniversary and its more than a thousand operative charging points. The CPO continuous expanding in Italy with a new strategic partnership with Telepass, that allows EV users to charge with Atlante directly from the Telepass app; and new openings, such as the fast-charging station at Città Fiera, Udine. 
  • Be Charge: The Italian CPO is happy to announce their new branding, more integrated with Plenitude, and the new name of its emobility services: On the Road. A “non-stop” progress with over 200 new charging points recently added to its app.
  • EDP: A partnership with ALDI will expand its charging network across Portugal, where more than 650 fast-charging points to be installed at ALDI shop carparks and operated by EDP.
  • Ewiva: Is proud of its high performance public charging network in Italy, which has been rated 4.77 out of 5 by EV drivers over the last 12 months, according to &Charge data. In the first 9 months of this year, the CPO has built 115 charging points across Italy.
  • Fastned: It is expanding in Spain with works going on in a new ultra-fast charging station in El Garraf (Barcelona) and plans to build other 12 more in the country in the upcoming months.
  • InstaVolt: This CPO is accelerating its expansion in the Iberian region, with the inauguration of its first station in Vic, Spain, a few days ago, and another to follow soon in Pegoes, Portugal. InstaVolt has announced plans to install 5,000 chargers in Spain and Portugal over the next five years. 
  • IONITY: It continuous growing its Spanish network with two new charging stations in Torredembarra and Lleida. 

The recent 90 Edition of the Mondial de l’Auto in Paris and the previous Intercharge Network Conference (icnc24) in Berlin in September were insightful events that shape the future of the electric mobility sector. We chated with some leading voices to gave us some predictions for the next year.
